Abstract

Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive neuroendocrine skin neoplasm, most commonly affecting the elderly and immunosuppressed individuals. MCC originates from Merkel cells located in the basal layer of the epidermis. The tumor is characterized by its rapid growth, high propensity for local recurrence, and a strong tendency for lymph node involvement and distant metastasis. Although it represents less than 1% of all cutaneous malignancies, MCC's aggressive nature often leads to a poor prognosis. The rarity of MCC and its aggressive clinical course make early detection and management critical for improving patient outcomes.
